Functional Movement Assessment in Cary

Before you load anything, we look at how you move — then build your program around what we find.

Before you lift anything at Alloy, we look at how you move. The movement assessment in your Starting Point Session shows your coach where you’re strong, where you’re restricted, and what your program needs to work around.

What We Assess

Why It Comes First

Most training injuries in adults 30+ aren’t caused by lifting heavy — they’re caused by loading a pattern the body can’t perform well yet. Finding that before your first working set is the difference between a program you can stay consistent with and one that sidelines you in week three.

What Your Coach Does With It

The assessment isn’t a score or a gate — nobody fails it. It’s the blueprint for your personalized program: which variations you start with, what range of motion you work in, and which restrictions we train around while we improve them.

Coming From Physical Therapy?

Many of our Cary members arrive after finishing PT, cleared to train but unsure what’s safe. The movement assessment gives your coach a clear picture of where you are so you can keep the progress you worked for — with supervision, in a room of six, instead of on your own.

Reassessed as You Improve

Movement changes as you get stronger. Your coach revisits it alongside your InBody scan at each monthly accountability session, so restrictions you started with don’t stay baked into your program forever.

Common Questions

What is the Starting Point Session and what can I expect during it?

The Starting Point Session is a complimentary, no-pressure consultation where we get to know you—your goals, lifestyle, and any physical concerns. You'll receive a personalized InBody Scan to understand your baseline and a mobility assessment, so we can recommend a program that's safe, effective, and tailored for you.

I have an old injury (bad knee, shoulder, back). Can I still train at Alloy?

Yes, and you're in the majority. Many of our members come to us with a previous injury, joint issue, or physical limitation. Your coach learns your history during your Starting Point Session and builds modifications directly into your program, so you train hard where you can and smart where you need to. Many members tell us this is the first place they've trained without pain.

Do I have to be in shape already to join?

Not at all! Many of our members haven't exercised in years. We meet you where you are, and our small group personal training ensures you get expert guidance, every session. There's no judgment—just encouragement and smart programming that moves at your pace.

Every Membership Starts the Same Way

We'll complete a strength and mobility assessment, an InBody body composition scan, and a goal-setting conversation — then map out a customized fitness plan and recommend the membership that's the best fit. No pressure, no obligations.
